THE named as top ten products at the JEMS conference in Baltimore

T.H.E. Medical's new Sally products proved a buge success at EMS Today 2011 with Dan White from EMS1.com ranking them ninth in his Top 10 New Products.  Here is what Dan reported:

9. T.H.E. Medical demonstrated two new lateral transfer devices. One was a disposable that reminded me a lot of the Stryker Speedsheet. The other is a more robust reusable device called the SallyRoller. It is a folding slide board that gently and smoothly transfers patients from bed to stretcher or vice versa.

It appeared very well made, and was obviously easy to use and effective. They also offer your choice of washable or disposable SallyTube covers. As our patients keep getting bigger and our backs keep getting older, this is one handy device. It makes even the toughest transfer smooth and drama-free with less strain to both rescuer and patient.

(Savannah) St. Joseph's/Candler health professionals have a load off their shoulders. The days of stooping, and bending to move patients are over.

"We've had a large number of work injuries here at St. Joe's/Candler, and statistically across the nation nurses are continuously hurting themselves," says Diane Hinely.

In the last two and a half years the health system spent a half million dollars on co -worker injury claims due to moving patients.

"We found that nurses have the lower back we have shoulder pains that is our number one injuries."

Safety is now built into the walls. Patient lifts attached to the ceiling are designed to prevent strains and injuries. The ceiling lifts stretch up to ten feet, a sling is placed underneath the patient.  Then the sling is attached to the lift.  At the push of a button the patient is transported.

Physical Therapist Assistant Dana Elkins loves it. "Because it can be cleaned between each patient as well as you can lift the patient up and down.  You can move them from stretcher to bed.  You can put them on bedside commode."

The lifts are also meant to protect knee injury patients like jean butler from falls while being treated.

"I think it's good that they've got it because I'm not that big a person.  I'm big built, but I don't weigh that much but there's people that's bigger than I am heavier than I am.  And it helps the employees of the hospital handle them better."

The patient lifts can hold 600 pounds. A critical investment to prevent injuries and to cut cost. Diane Hinely says that some nurses have permanent back damage from lifting patients. The new lifts are installed in 126 beds at Saint Joseph's/Candler in mostly critical care units. The goal is to have all of their 636 beds equipped with lifts.

Fighting Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) with new Ceiling Lift Technology by T.H.E. Medical

Barrie, Ontario: T.H.E. Medical announced today the launch of a new line of ceiling mounted patient lifts specifically designed to assist in the fight against Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). The new infection control ( I.C.) line of lifts incorporate an industry-first, patent-pending lifting strap that can be completely disinfected with virtually any hard surface disinfectant. “Traditional ceiling lifts have always posed a very-high risk of cross contamination due to their porous, fabric lifting straps which patients and caregivers handle all day so that while ceiling lifts are a perfect solution to reducing if not eliminating caregiver injuries, to date they continue to pose a potential infection control risk” says company CEO Jon Winer. “This new lifting strap can help eliminate the risks posed by MRSA, C. Diff, H1N1 and numerous other dangerous pathogens”. Ceiling lifts equipped with the new I.C. strap can now safely be used in operating rooms, ICU’s and all other areas of hospitals and nursing homes without compromising patient safety. The company’s new line of lifts retain all of the features associated with ceiling lifts that help reduce or eliminate caregiver injuries due to patient handling and are available in safe lifting capacities from 400 to 1,000 lbs.
